Concert 1: Young People’s Concert (Gr 4-7)

YOUNG PEOPLE’S CONCERT SERIES

This season marks the 58^th year that the Burnaby School District has organized a Young People’s Concert Series to provide additional opportunity for intermediate students to access a wide variety of performing arts presentations.
Performances will take place in the Michael J. Fox Theatre at Burnaby South Secondary School for students enrolled in Grades 4 to 7. Students will be transported by school bus. The 2025-2026 Series will include the following artists:

¯ CONCERT I:            Grupo America by Las Americas                                November 25, 2025

Dazzle your students with Grupo America’s visual explosion of glamour, colour, and spirited music! This Latin dance extravaganza presents folkloric and contemporary dances from Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and the US, taking audiences on a journey from the pre-Columbian to the modern era. Students learn about the three main influences in dances from the Americas: European, African, and Indigenous. Each dance is introduced with a brief description of the country and the dance’s origin and story.

¯ CONCERT II:           Blues Rocks! by The Blues Rocks Band                                    January 12-16, 2026

This brand-new interactive show from KBAM! introduces students to the very foundation of Western popular music: The Blues! Through listening, singing, and clapping along students will learn to recognize the essential blues chord progression. By hearing everything from Robert Johnson to Elvis Presley, and Led Zeppelin to TV theme songs, students will realize that their favourite music is built on the blues.
