Gym Sense Residency

January 27 – February 7, 2025

The Gym Sense Gymnastics school program is designed to allow students to be exposed to gymnastics through fun, fitness and fundamentals.

Certified gymnastics instructors provide safe instruction to ensure that each child has an opportunity to learn the sport of gymnastics.  We thank the PAC for supporting this residency.

Axé Capoeira (pronounced aH-shay cap-oh-AIR-ah) Residency December 2-6.  Families are invited to attend a school-wide performance on Friday Dec 6 at 11:15am.

We would like to thank the PAC for making this exciting residency possible.

Axé Capoeira has an emphasis on active health, arts and cultural appreciation. Capoeira teaches an appreciation for multiculturalism through music played on traditional Afro-Brazilian instruments, songs in Portuguese and Brazilian dance.

Axé Capoeira was founded in Brazil, first arriving in Canada to perform at the Vancouver International Children’s Festival in 1990.  Since 1990, they have become one of the premier capoeira organizations in North America. With over ten performance DVDs, seven internationally acclaimed music CDs, a vibrant track record of over 5,000 school shows and stage performances, and two years running as choreography consultant to So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Axé Capoeira will present a show unparalleled in its spectacular combination of dance, acrobatics, music and theatrics.

Grupo Axé Capoeira originated in Recife, Brazil, in 1982, and opened the first-ever capoeira academy in Canada, in 1996. Based in Vancouver, BC, the organization today continues to rise as one of the world’s leading schools of capoeira. With its internationally high standards of teaching and training students, Axé Capoeira has seen enrolment steadily increase over the years, to a current total of approximately 8000 students in over 20 countries around the world.

Welcome Conversations are happening this week and next depending on teacher’s availability.  These conversations are meant to give families a chance to share important information about their child(ren) and to set some goals for this school year. We look forward to connecting and learning more about our students!

Please use exterior classroom doors to enter and exit classrooms for your meeting.

We hope you are enjoying your summer and we look forward to seeing you back at school next week!

On Tuesday, September 3rd, the first day of school, students will return to their classroom from the previous year. The primary objective for the morning is to take accurate attendance, so it is important for all students to attend. Students should arrive by 8:50 a.m. and will be dismissed at 10:00 a.m.

New students to Confederation Park School should wait at the Pandora St. entrance, where they will be greeted and escorted to the art room.

Wednesday, September 3^rd through Friday, September 6^th are full days for grade 1-7 students, and they will continue to stay in their classroom from last year.  Students will be engaging with the theme “Finding Our Place” and participating in activities designed to strengthen community and relationships.  We plan to move students into their new classes on Monday, Monday, Sept. 9^th.

A special warm welcome to our new Kindergarten families. Please refer to the gradual entry schedule that was shared with you in June.

June 21st is National Indigenous History Day in Canada. It’s a time to honour the stories, achievements and resilience of Indigenous Peoples.  Confederation Park Elementary was proud to honour this day by having a primary event called “One voice, One Heart, All Peoples” in which our students gathered in a drum circle with their newly made deer hide rattles and sang two Indigenous songs: Gitsigakomin and L’il Wat Song.

Students were also read a beautiful story by Monique Gray Smith entitled “ When We Are Kind”, learned about the history of Bannock and had a chance to sample some for themselves!

Across the District, there are a variety of opportunities throughout the school year to celebrate diversity, inclusion and kindness. When students feel represented, welcome, supported, respected, and safe, they are more engaged in learning.
