February is Registration Month – Deadline February 27, 2020

February is registration month for the Burnaby School District.  Kindergarten registrations, Cross-District, Out-of-District and Language Program applications will be accepted between February 3 and February 27, 2020 (our office will be closed February 17 for Family Day and February 28 for a Professional Day).

Students born in 2015 will be entering Kindergarten in September 2020 and must register at their attendance area school.  To find the school that your child is eligible to attend, click School Locator.

All registrations and applications require an appointment.  Please contact our school office at 604-296-9010 or at ConfederationPark.info@burnabyschools.ca to book an appointment. Appointments are available 10am-11:30am and 1pm-2:30pm.

To your registration appointment, please bring the completed Student Information Form and all other required documentation as noted in the registration procedures.

Priority placement for the upcoming year will be given to applications received between February 3-February 27 (our school is closed February 28 for a Professional Day).  Applications received after February 27 will be placed on a waitlist.

There are a number of factors and priorities that determine a student’s placement in a Burnaby school.

Winter Weather Procedures

As winter weather approaches, we want to remind parents/guardians, students, and staff about Burnaby School District weather related school closure announcements.

All schools will remain OPEN, unless there is heavy snowfall, damage or other circumstances (e.g. power outage) that make it impossible to operate safely. In the event there are certain schools or the entire district closed due to snow, or any other weather-related issues, announcements will be made on local radio stations by 7 a.m. on the day of the closure.

Closure information will also be posted on the district website at www.burnabyschools.ca.  However, keep in mind that there may be situations where this is not possible, for example, if there are power outages or technical problems. The most reliable way to get school closure information is to listen to the local radio stations.

Student safety is a responsibility we share with families. Please walk your child to the door of the school if you are unsure whether or not the school is open. If for any reason you feel that your student cannot travel safely then please – as you normally would – notify the school that your child will be absent.

If weather conditions deteriorate throughout the day and create a concern for the safety of students returning home, a decision may be made to dismiss students early. This will be communicated to parents in the best way possible through the schools’ normal communications channels.

PLEASE NOTE:
Information will only be provided on school closures. If there is no closure information, our schools are open for learning! However, the decision to send your child to school or not is ultimately a family decision. For more detailed information on weather related school closures, please click here

Full-Release Emergency Drill

We will be having a Full-Release Emergency Drill on the afternoon of Thursday, October 17th.  This will be an emergency evacuation drill followed by a full release of students to parents.  The drill will begin at 2pm and parents will be asked to come to the site to pick up their child(ren) after 2:15pm. The drill will take place over the road from the playground in the Confederation Park picnic area.

Students will be organized in family groupings by their last name and each group will be associated with a colour. Students with a last name beginning:

A – G = RED

H – O = YELLOW

P – Z = BLUE

When you arrive to pick up your child(ren) please go to the corresponding colour group where there will be a sign-out table. Please note that we will NOT release students to adults unless ID is shown.  If you are asking an adult other than yourself to pick up your child they MUST be registered on the Student Emergency Release Form (pink form) which was filled in at the beginning of this school year, and this adult must also bring ID.  If you wish to check this information please contact the office beforehand.  Any parents not able to pick up their child before 3pm will pick them up at the bell outside.

We will run this drill rain or shine so please ensure your child dresses appropriately for the weather on this day, including water proof clothing.

If you have any further questions please contact the office.
