Hello and welcome to Confederation Park! Our school is an Education Through the Arts Elementary School which caters for students K – 7. Alongside our arts program, we offer students opportunities to develop their academic, social and emotional skills through leadership groups and various sports activities and events. Athletic opportunities include sports such as cross-country, volleyball and basketball although at this time our extra-curriculum sports are on hold due to COVID restrictions. Confederation Park staff is also committed to providing a safe, caring and inclusive community for all, that teaches students to recognize and appreciate diversity, equity and inclusion, and encourages growth that focuses on the individual child.
As an Education Through the Arts School, there are several ways in which we provide and sustain our arts programming. Students have the opportunity to engage in the visual arts, dance, music and drama on a weekly basis. We also offer a wide range of artistic experiences to our students through the use of Artists-In-Residence, skilled teachers and an arts-infused curriculum.
Through our Artist-In-Residence program, students are given the opportunity to participate in specialized projects where new skills are developed and enhanced through the guidance of artistic experts. Through the arts-infused curriculum, students are given an opportunity to explore themes, ideas and concepts through various creative processes and demonstrate learning in a variety of ways. This year, for example, we are exploring our school-wide theme ‘From the Heart’ through which we plan to connect creative visual and performance processes. We are also exploring Outdoor Education and Indigenous themes and plan to connect these to various curriculum areas with students working creatively to explore and develop various concepts and ideas.
We are fortunate to have parents in our community who are skilled in the arts and technology, who donate their time to work with our students and engage them in further artistic learning opportunities. We have a very active and supportive PAC who help fund many of our initiatives and are a great support to our community. We are very grateful for their support and commitment to our programming.
Due to COVID, we are further exploring technology this year and finding creative ways to share student learning as well as performance pieces with our families through Zoom, film, e-portfolios and other tech links which we hope will keep families connected. Stay tuned for more information on up-coming performances and our sharing of student learning this year.
As always, check in with our website to stay connected and to receive further information.
